American National U.S. Army Truck – Giant Series Pressed Steel Toy (Late 1920s) – 27.5", Original Paint, Canvas & Parts
This late‑1920s American National U.S. Army truck is a rare survivor from the company’s short‑lived line of Giant Series pressed steel vehicles. Measuring an impressive 27.5 inches long, this military truck was produced by the American National Company of Toledo, Ohio—best known for their pedal cars and tricycles. In the late 1920s, the company briefly entered the pressed‑steel toy market to compete with major manufacturers such as Buddy L, Keystone, and Steelcraft, making these large‑scale vehicles especially scarce today.
This example is modeled after a Packard‑style military truck and remains in remarkably original condition. It retains its factory army‑green paint with black pinstriped decoration, its original canvas top, original rubber tires, and the original hand crank with working clicker mechanism. The paint shows a pleasing, authentic alligatored surface, and the original labels are largely intact. The khaki canvas has some expected sun fading, and there is one very minor dent—subtle signs of age that confirm its authenticity and gentle use.
High‑grade, all‑original American National pressed steel toys are extremely difficult to find, and this U.S. Army truck stands out as an exceptional, untouched example. Its size, originality, and military theme make it a standout piece for collectors of pressed steel toys, military vehicles, American National toys, and early 20th‑century Americana.
