Patriotic Home Bank — Scarce Still Bank Variation, Circa 1872

Offered here is an exceptional and very scarce Patriotic Home Bank still‑bank variation, manufactured around 1872 by the J. & E. Stevens Company of Cromwell, Connecticut—America’s most influential 19th‑century cast‑iron toy and bank maker. Measuring 5½" H x 4⅜" W x 4⅜" D, this architectural cast‑iron bank features a striking red, white, and blue patriotic paint scheme, a rare finish compared to its widely distributed mechanical counterpart.

This example retains over 90% original paint with no touch‑ups, showcasing crisp pinstriped highlights and a beautifully preserved surface—an extraordinary survival for an early Stevens still bank. Its only minor apology is a thin, nearly unnoticeable 7/8" sliver missing from the rear roof edge, as photographed. Aside from this small flaw, the bank is in pristine condition, with no cracks, repairs, or other issues.

Patriotic‑themed Stevens banks from the early 1870s are highly sought after, and the still‑bank version of the Home Bank is significantly harder to find than the mechanical model. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a top‑tier example of an early American architectural still bank with exceptional original paint and strong visual appeal.
