Three Roosters on Painted Base Antique Pull Toy (Circa 1890–1920) – Rare Composition Figures, Original Mustard Base, Exceptional Condition

This circa 1890–1920 antique pull toy is an unusually scarce and visually striking example featuring three composition roosters, each complexly hand‑painted and mounted on spring legs. They stand atop a wooden base in its original mustard‑yellow ground with black painted feet—a distinctive treatment rarely seen on pull toys. While similar painted‑foot bases appear on certain rooster squeak toys of the era, this is the only pull toy we have encountered with this specific decorative approach.

Measuring 7 1/2" H x 10 3/8" L x 3 5/16" D, this toy has survived in pristine, nearly as‑made condition, showing only the most minor, expected wear from age. The roosters retain their vibrant multicolor decoration, and the base remains structurally sound with excellent surface integrity. Its originality, charm, and rarity make it a standout example of late‑19th‑ to early‑20th‑century American and European pull‑toy craftsmanship.

Because so few toys of this type were produced—and even fewer survive with their original paint and components intact—this piece represents an exceptional opportunity for collectors of antique pull toys, composition figures, folk toys, and early children’s playthings. Its whimsical presence and remarkable preservation make it a true highlight in any advanced toy collection.
